Gang of children raid Auckland liquor store in broad daylight, crash stolen van through residential fence after being spiked

Six schoolchildren aged 10 to 15 years old allegedly raided an Auckland liquor store in broad daylight, resulting in them "deliberately" crashing their stolen van through a fence after police spiked it.

Auckland police were called to what's believed to be Liquorland Howick in Elliot St at 9:22am on Wednesday after the children raided the building, stealing a number of items including alcohol.

In a statement to Newshub, a police spokesperson said a stolen white van was used by the group, adding police units spotted the vehicle and "[it] was subsequently spiked".

The spokesperson said the police Eagle helicopter provided aerial support and tracked the stolen vehicle with the children inside to a location in Manurewa "where it was deliberately driven through a fence at a residential property".

Police say the children bolted into the address and the six schoolchildren were taken into police custody without incident.

The spokesperson said three children were arrested and appeared in the Manukau Youth Court on Wednesday.

The other three were released and referred to Police's Youth Aid Service.
