Man charged following shooting in Lower Hutt

A man has been charged following a shooting in Lower Hutt.

Police responded to numerous shots in the Randwick Road area at around 1:15am on Saturday.

"One person, who sustained a gunshot wound, was transported by police to hospital in a serious condition," Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the man had surgery and is in a stable condition.

Now, a 24-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and committing a dangerous act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Det Snr Sgt Todd said.

The man is set to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court on Wednesday.
