Driver dies after being assaulted after crash in Beachhaven, manhunt underway

A driver has died after allgedly being assaulted after two cars crashed in Beachhaven on Friday night. 

Police said in a statement emergency services were called after the crash happened at Tramway Road and Beachhaven Road. 

Police said they believe the driver of one car involved in the crash died after they were assaulted by an occupant of the other car. 

The driver suffered critical injuries and died at the scene, police said.

The occupants of the second car left the scene and police are trying to locate them . 

The car is a black BMW sedan, registration CTC411 and police have put out an appeal for witnesses.

Anyone who sees this car is asked to call Police immediately on 111, quoting event number P053841960.

The vehicle should not be approached.

Multiple road closures are in place and motorists are asked to follow the directions of emergency services staff at the scene.

Auckland Transport tweeted the roads are closed and there are a number of bus diversions.
