Police are asking the public for help after a man was violently assaulted at a bar on Queenstown's Church Street, on Tuesday morning.

"Just after midnight, a man received a laceration to his neck and required medical treatment," a police spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.

Police said they are trying to figure out how the assault happened and identify the person who is responsible.

"Police are releasing an image of a man who we believe can assist with our enquiries and are asking anyone who knows who he is to get in touch with police as soon as possible," the spokesperson said.

The man in question is allegedly not from the Queenstown region, police said.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 105 quoting file number 230321/7649 or by visiting your local police station," police said.
