Kapa haka teams take to Polyfest stage after years of disruptions

The top Tāmaki Makaurau secondary schools kapa haka teams have taken to the Polyfest stage in Manukau.

They're performing to crowds for the first time after years of disruption.

Ngā Puna o Waiōrea has taken the title at this year's Polyfest, with second place being Te Kura Kaupapa o Hoani Waititi and third place Kia Aroha College.

Kings College was the first to make an entrance, with their strong ballad 'Whakaeke'.

They were one of many all-male kapa haka that took the stage.

And the all-female group in blue, from Auckland Girls Grammar, showed off the poi, paying homage to the sea maiden or deity Hinemoana.

Others made tributes, with a west Auckland kura kaupapa Te Uamairangi singing while bringing light to various issues, such as the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Schools from ngā hau e whā, or all four winds, together performing finally to crowds after years of disruptions.

The Māori stage, completing the final piece to this year's Polyfest 2023.
