Person hospitalised after car fire which spread to house in North Canterbury

A person is in a critical condition in hospital suffering from burns following a car fire that spread to a nearby property in North Canterbury.

Fire and Emergency were called to the address on Woodlands Road in Sheffield at 10.30 this morning.

A FENZ spokesperson said on arrival a car was well-involved in a fire and the flames had spread to a house.

The blaze is contained and firefighters remain at the scene dampening down hotspots.

Hato Hone St John said they responded to the fire with one ambulance, one rapid response unit, one manager and one helicopter. One patient was airlifted to Christchurch hospital in a critical condition.
