Four people arrested after string of ram raid, burglaries in Auckland

Police have made a string of arrests following a number of burglaries in Auckland over the weekend.

Police confirmed two teenagers were arrested following a ram raid at a liquor store on Great North Road in Grey Lynn just after 4am on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said the two teenagers stole several items from inside the shop before fleeing in a vehicle.

"A police unit located this vehicle abandoned in the nearby area, and thanks to the brilliant work of our camera operators they identified a further vehicle of interest," the spokesperson said.

Enquiries led officers to Te Atatū in west Auckland and with the help of the police Eagle helicopter, ground staff were directed to a street where the vehicle and the teenagers were found.

Police said the teenagers attempted to flee the area, but a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested and taken into custody.

East Auckland burglary

Meanwhile, in east Auckland, police responded to a burglary at a shop on Cain Road in Penrose just before 3am on Monday morning.

A spokesperson said a Police Delta unit attended and found two offenders while they were committing the burglary.

The two thieves fled on foot, but a 36-year-old man was arrested nearby.

"Police have since located numerous items stolen from various commercial burglaries in the offenders’ vehicle," the spokesperson said.

Police said enquiries are still ongoing to locate the second person from the early morning burglary.

Police said the two teenagers and the 36-year-old man will all appear in court.

"Police acknowledge the great work by the various teams involved in responding to each incident," the spokesperson said.
