Six Nomad gang members have been arrested in South Taranaki as a part of Operation Cobalt, an investigation targeting unlawful conduct by members of the gang.

South Taranaki response manager acting senior sergeant Andrew Russ said the six men, aged between 19 and 40 are before the courts following arrests in Patea between March 17 and May 5.

"The investigations involved members of the Armed Offenders Squad and CIB, and included a number of search warrants."

Snr Sgt Russ said the men are due to appear in the Hawera District Court on May 16 and May 26, on charges including aggravated robbery and participating in an organised criminal group.

Snr Sgt Russ added five of the men have been remanded in custody.

"These warrants are an example of the ongoing work being carried out as part of Operation Cobalt across New Zealand, targeting illegal activity by gang members and their associates."

He said South Taranaki police are "committed and focused on driving gang early intervention and enforcement activity".

"Police ensure a visible policing approach to disrupt unlawful activity and hold offenders to account."

Snr Sgt Russ said police's aim is to reduce the prevalence of the unlawful behaviour.

"Those who are choosing to engage themselves in this type of activity should expect to come to our attention."

Police encourage anyone who has concerns about suspicious activity to contact police.
