Police have uncovered a hefty stash of stolen goods built up over a couple of months after arresting a man accused of being a "prolific" Christchurch burglar.

Police said a 26-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a number of burglaries in the Christchurch Hill suburbs over the past two months.

A large amount of jewellery was recovered as well as other valuable items by the tactical crime unit.

The team is in the process of making contact with the victims and returning the stolen property.

"Photos of any unidentified property will be placed on to the Canterbury Police Facebook Page at a future date in the hope it will be identified," police said.

The man appeared in court on Friday morning and has been remanded in custody. He is likely to face further burglary charges.

"If anyone has been the subject of recent burglary and believe their property may have been recovered, we urge them to report it to police and give as much detail as possible about the stolen items," police said.
