Two people have been arrested after a man was critically injured in Whanganui on Sunday June 18.

Police found the man on the corner of St Hill Street and Ridgeway Street and believe his injuries were from being assaulted.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

In an update on Monday, Police said two people have been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

"Thanks to information provided by the public, Police were able to hold these offenders to account and provide some reassurance for the victim and community," a police spokesperson said.

A 19-year-old is due to appear in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday June 27 and an 18-year-old is set to appear there on Tuesday July 11.
