Auckland's Rosehill College investigating 'disturbing email' sent to students' school accounts

An Auckland high school is investigating a "disturbing email" that was sent to its students on their school accounts.

Rosehill College principal Davida Suasua said the email contained a graphic video that's able to be accessed and downloaded online.

The school was notified of the cyber breach within one minute of the email being sent out and has since removed it from all student accounts. Although it said a handful of pupils saw it.

Parents in community Facebook groups were horrified the video was sent to students. One called the footage "very disturbing".

"How the hell are people able to send this kind of traumatic video footage to the students. I thought there was some sort of protection to the students' emails," another parent wrote.

"The footage is horrible. No one should have to see that from a school bloody email."

Rosehill College is working with its IT providers and police to establish how the breach happened.

Police and Netsafe have been contacted for comment.
