Auckland train services to and from Britomart have returned after trespassers ended up on the tracks on Friday afternoon.

Auckland Transport (AT) tweeted just after 1pm warning commuters to prepare for delays and potential train cancellations after people were reported on the tracks.

In an update at 2:40pm, AT tweeted saying "clearance has been received and trains are returning to their full routes".

Though AT is warning delays and cancellations are still expected while the service return to its correction timetables.

In a statement to Stuff, police said the trespassers were just "confused tourists".
