Two hospitalised after hammer attack at Auckland dairy

A manhunt is continuing on Thursday after two people were hospitalised following a violent assault at an Auckland dairy.

The attack, at Jyotis Dairy on Mt Albert Rd, was reported to police at about 4:30pm on Wednesday.

According to police, offenders attacked the victims and stole tobacco and cash before leaving. Two people sustained moderate injuries, police said.

The owner of the Jyotis Dairy, Jayanti Patel, told the NZ Herald his wife is now in Auckland Hospital unable to speak.

"There was blood coming down, running all over her body," Patel told the Herald, adding one of the men swung a hammer at his wife.

A manhunt for the offenders remains ongoing.
