A feral stoat was spotted running through Auckland Airport on Wednesday night.

Biosecurity NZ told Newshub the stoat was seen running through the arrivals area.

"The airport company has notified us that an animal resembling a stoat or weasel was spotted in the arrivals area by their security cameras last night," a Biosecurity New Zealand spokesperson said.

However they said the pest hadn't snuck through the border.

"The animal likely made its way into the precinct from surrounding land," the statement said.

"There is nothing to suggest the animal came from an arriving traveller or baggage."

According to Biosecurity the stoat hasn't been caught and the airport has arranged for animal pest control services to search the arrivals area.
