Logging truck goes off edge of State Highway 1 near Lake Taupō, road closed

There will be major traffic disruptions near Taupō on Thursday after a logging truck went over the edge of State Highway 1, closing the road for much for much of the day.

Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said the truck went over the edge near Te Pōporo (Bulli Point) on Wednesday afternoon.

The road on the side of Lake Taupō will be closed from 7am while the logging truck is removed from the scene.

It will reopen between "lunchtime and the end of the day", depending on the degree of difficulty encountered in the truck recovery, according to NZTA.

The detour will be via SH41 and SH32. NZTA added there are also temporary traffic signals in operation on SH41 past a slip site and warned motorists to expect delays.

NZTA said it will update motorists when the road is expected to reopen on Thursday.
