One person has died after a crash involving a car and a truck near Ashburton.
The crash happened at about 9:45am on Monday, at the intersection of Hackthorne and Maronan Valetta Rds, near the settlements of Westerfield and Mayfield.
According to police, the sole occupant of the car was killed while the driver of the truck received minor injuries.
The road remains closed and is likely to be blocked for some time, police said.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as officers undertake a scene examination.
