One person is dead following an accident at Ballance Agri-Nutrients' Mount Maunganui site.
A spokesperson for the company said at about 12pm on Thursday, someone died following a "work-related incident".
Police confirmed they were called to the Hewletts Rd site.
The spokesperson for Ballance Agri-Nutrients Mount Maunganui said "our hearts go out to our team member's whānau, friends, and colleagues".
The company is working closely with WorkSafe and Police, who are on the site "as they review the incident and we hope to know more soon".
"Our focus is on people. Next of kin are being advised and support is being put in place. EAP services are available for our staff."
The Mount Maunganui operations site is closed until further notice.
Police said the death will be referred to WorkSafe and the Coroner.
A WorkSafe spokesperson said it had been notified and is "making initial enquiries into the fatality today at Ballance Agri-Nutrients in Mt Maunganui".
