Police are making enquiries after a dead person was found at a beach in Horowhenua.
In a statement from police, they said they were called to Waitārere Beach at 4:30pm after the body was located in the water by a member of the public.
Police said they are working to identify the person, notify their next of kin and work out what happened.
They will provide further updates once available.
