A young person has been killed by a train in Tauranga on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the incident on Hewletts Road in Mount Maunganui at around 2:55pm.
Police say most of the roads in the area have reopened, but a small section of Hewlett’s Road, MacDonald Street and Maunganui Road remains closed. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says motorists should avoid the area and take alternative routes.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
