Auckland police have charged a 19-year-old man with murder following a sudden death at a Epsom motel on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to Off Broadway Motel on Alpers Ave at about 7:25pm on Wednesday following reports one person had serious injuries. The person died at the scene.

On Thursday morning, police said their homicide investigation has led to a 19-year-old man being charged with murder and he will appear in the Auckland District Court on Thursday.

Auckland City CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong said the victim and the 19-year-old are known to each other.

"Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter."

Det Snr Sgt Armstrong reassured the community the alleged murder appeared to be an isolated incident.

A scene guard will remain at Off Broadway Motel for the remainder of Thursday.

"Police will endeavour to provide further details around the identity of the victim when we are in a position to do so," he said.

As the matter is before the Court, police say they're limited in commenting further.
