One person is seriously injured after a fire broke out on the roof of a multi-tenanted complex in Auckland.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) were called to St Andrews Rd in Epsom on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out on the roof of the two-storey building.

A FENZ spokesperson told Newshub six crews initially responded to the house fire, which is now contained, with three crews remaining.

One person was rescued by FENZ crews. A St John spokesperson said the person has been transported to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition with "potential threat to life".

A fire Investigation team is on-site to determine how the blaze started.
