Two people were arrested in Dunedin after flat tensions boiled over.

Officers arrived at a flat on Castle St, known for being a notorious party street, on Monday at about 3:45pm after an 18-year-old allegedly assaulted her 19-year-old flatmate. Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said she grabbed her flatmate by the hair, punched her on the ground, and kicked her head.

The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with assault with intent to injure. She's expected to appear in court on Thursday.

But that wasn't the end of it all. Snr Sgt Bond said later that day, some of the woman's associates showed up at the Dunedin Central Police Station and one "threatened to bash" one of the victim's friends. The 18-year-old associate was arrested and issued with a formal warning for her behaviour.

Snr Sgt Bond said it's understood the flat tension was over a flatmate contacting a property manager about one of the associates.
