Newshub understands Wishbone, a well-known cafe chain that's lined the streets of Aotearoa since 2000, has gone into liquidation.

Newshub has heard from a worker at Wishbone’s food production plant in Wellington, that liquidators arrived at the location and closed the business.

Wellington Airport has also confirmed its Wishbone store stopped trading on Tuesday.

A Unite Union spokesperson told Newshub the union was contacted by another Wishbone worker's family member, saying the company had been liquidated.

The spokesperson said the employee was "fired on the spot," with their redundancy taking effect immediately.

Newshub has tried to contact the company for comment, but its website has been taken down.
