Police searching for armed man, getaway driver after Auckland bowling alley targeted in 'broad daylight' robbery

Police are searching for an armed robber and his getaway driver following a robbery at a bowling alley and pokie room in Auckland's Wairau Park shopping complex.

Police told Newshub a man armed with a weapon entered the venue at around 5:45pm on Tuesday and demanded cash.

A witness who was playing the pokies at the time of the robbery told NZ Herald it happened in "broad bloody daylight".

"A single guy came in with a weapon. There were three staff at the counter when he came in and they were really distressed afterwards," the witness said.

"They came into the pokies room and told us they'd just been held up and we had to go. There were about half a dozen of us in the pokies room."

Waitematā CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Nimmo confirmed the man stole cash before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.

Det Snr Sgt Nimmo said no one was injured in the robbery and police have launched an investigation.

"While no arrests have been made at this stage, Police are following positive lines of enquiry into the matter," Det Snr Sgt Nimmo said
