Election 2023: The Hui Māori electorate debate - Waiariki candidates

The Hui on Tuesday night kicked off election debate season with the first tautohetohe (debate) between the two contenders hoping to win the seat of Waiariki.

The electorate extends from Cape Runaway on the East Cape, all the way up to Waihi Beach and south to Tūrangi and the Kaimanawa mountains.

Labour's Toni Boynton is trying her best to unseat incumbent Rawiri Waititi from Te Pāti Māori.

One of seven Māori electorates, Waiariki includes the cities of:

  • Tauranga
  • Whakatāne
  • Rotorua; and
  • Taupō.

This debate has now finished.
