Woman critically injured after being hit by car, friend's foot run over after altercation in New Plymouth

A person has been arrested after allegedly hitting and critically injuring a woman with her car and running over another person's foot in New Plymouth on Sunday morning. 

The ordeal started after an altercation on Liardet Street in the New Plymouth CBD involving several people at around 2:40am. 

Police said a 23-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and critically injured following the altercation. 

The 23-year-old was transported to hospital and is now in a stable condition.

A friend of the victim, a 22-year-old man, also suffered moderate injuries, after his foot was run over, according to police. 

Police said they have arrested a 38-year-old woman following the incident. 

A section of Liardet Street remains closed on Sunday morning, while officers conduct a scene examination.

"Police have spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident unfold and has not yet spoken to us," a police spokesperson said.
