The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) says 16 Kiwis left Israel on a Fiji Airways flight on Wednesday heading to Nadi.

MFAT said it's continuing to help New Zealanders get commercial flights out of Israel as the conflict continues between Israel and Hamas.

The Fijian government says up to 200 of its religious pilgrims, along with people from Australia, Samoa, the Philippines and New Zealand boarded the flight to Nadi.

A MFAT spokesperson said the latest advice to Kiwis in Israel includes a range of information on the commercial flights out of Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

"We know New Zealanders have been able to secure seats and that availability exists in the next few days, particularly as some airlines have added additional flights, and others have flights into Tel Aviv - such as Turkish, Emirates and Etihad airlines," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said partner countries have decided to operate or fund additional flights, and MFAT is in "very close contact" with them about their plans.

"But while those options remain a number of days away, and the timing of others have yet to be confirmed, our focus has continued to be on supporting New Zealanders to use commercial opportunities to depart."

It comes as Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced plans for two Qantas flights to leave Tel Aviv later this week.

"We understand that many Australians are experiencing difficulties with delays and cancellations with commercial flights. For Australians who do not already have plans to leave through commercial options, Australian government-assisted departure flights will depart from Friday," Albanese said.

MFAT said it will continue to work closely with its consular partners, including those operating flights out of Israel in the days ahead.

"New Zealanders within the region are encouraged to register on SafeTravel for the most up to date information," the spokesperson said.

"Anyone in the region and wants to get out but can’t get out should go to www.Safetravel.govt.nz to find the relevant contact details for consular assistance."
