A man has been arrested after disembarking from a flight in Nelson in possession of what's believed to be 1kg of methamphetamine.

The 38-year-old man arrived from Auckland at about 10pm on Thursday and was taken into custody.

It's understood the meth was set to be sold in the Tasman District area, Detective Inspector Lex Bruning said on Friday.

"The 38-year-old man has been charged with possession for the supply of methamphetamine/amphetamine and is due to appear in Nelson District Court today."

Police said officers were committed to investigating people who caused harm through distributing drugs.

Bruning said police would "continue to disrupt this criminal activity and hold those involved to account".

"If anyone has any information regarding the distribution of controlled drugs, they can contact police in confidence on 105 if it has happened or 111 if it is happening now.

"Alternatively, information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
