Video: Road rage victim harassed, chased down Auckland motorway

The victim of a scary road rage attack is shaken after a relentless driver chased her at speed down a busy Auckland motorway earlier this week.

She was driving home on the Southern Motorway on Tuesday evening when a vehicle in front of her suddenly cut into her lane without indicating for three seconds prior.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, decided to beep her horn at the ute - but could never have predicted what happened next.

Dashcam footage supplied to Newshub shows the driver parking his ute in the middle of the busy motorway, jumping out and storming towards her.

The woman said the man was "swearing aggressively", so she locked her doors, fearful of what he may do next.

She waited until no cars were coming in the lane next to her and pulled out, driving away from the man – but that wasn't the end of her troubles.

The man jumped back in his ute and began chasing her as she ducked between lanes to try and speed away from him.

About 40 seconds later, he catches up to her and parks his ute diagonally across the two right lanes in front of her, trapping the woman.

The man walks right up to her car window and starts yelling at her again.

"I was shaking in the car," the woman told Newshub.

Fortunately, a car behind her had witnessed what had happened and came to her rescue. She said the car carrying three women pulled over and they told the man to leave her alone.

One of them got their camera out and filmed the man, who eventually hopped back in his car and sped away.

"If it is not for them, I don't know what would have happened," the woman said. "They are really brave."

The woman reported the incident to the police.

A police spokesperson said the incident took place near the Mt Wellington Highway off-ramp at about 5:50pm on Tuesday.

"We recognise this was a concerning incident for those involved and we are providing support to the victim.

"Police have been in contact with the victim in regards to this and at this stage, enquiries into the incident remain ongoing."
