A man has been arrested and charged following a violent robbery at a west Auckland mall nearly two weeks ago.

Officers arrested the 42-year-old in Manukau on Tuesday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie said police staff from across Tāmaki Makaurau helped with the man's arrest.

"This was a violent and shocking robbery, committed in broad daylight and in a very busy shopping area."

Police had been hunting for the person responsible after a man smashed his way into a Western Union currency exchange booth, using a sledgehammer, on November 12.

Two staff were inside the store at the time, which is inside LynnMall, but nobody was injured.

The man subsequently fled with cash.

Det Snr Sgt Goldie acknowledged it would have been frightening for the two workers and witnesses.

"Police have no tolerance for those causing harm in our communities and we will continue [to] hold offenders to account."

He'll appear at Waitākere District Court on Wednesday.
