Police are responding to a series of emails that they've described as of a "concerning nature" directed to several organisations throughout New Zealand including hospitals and schools.

A police spokesperson said officers are trying to figure out the origin of the emails and have yet to establish any actual threat to any organisation.

"Staff are working with those impacted and each organisation may respond differently according to their individual circumstances and the information available to them," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said police acknowledge how "unsettling these emails" are for anyone who received them and would like to thank all involved for their cooperation as officers investigate the emails.

The spokesperson said police will not be disclosing the names of individual organisations that received emails.

Newshub has seen officers at the ambulance bay of Wellington Hospital.

Bowen Hospital has also confirmed to Newshub that police were on site.

Police have also responded to threats on Park Road, the location of Auckland City Hospital, and Great South Road in Wiri, where the Manukau Super Clinic is located.

In a statement, Te Whatu Ora said some hospitals "received an email of concern this morning" which was passed on to police.

"Staff have followed police advice and we are remaining vigilant. Our hospital sites have remained open and all services are continuing," the statement said.

"Members of the public with appointments at our hospitals or needing emergency treatment should be assured it is safe to attend their local hospital as usual."

St Kentigern College in Auckland confirmed it has received a threat and has evacuated all students and staff, according to a message put on their website.

"Please do not enter the campus as we are following evacuation procedures. Please help keep all our phone lines clear for emergency services," the message read.

A parent, who wished to be anonymous, of a St Kentigern student told Newshub they were really impressed with the communication from the school during the evacuation.

"As a parent, it’s vital to know your child is safe, understand the situation and know how to respond. It’s awful the teachers had to face this, but we can’t fault their response to an incredibly worrisome situation," the parent told Newshub.

Evolution Healthcare told Newshub it understands several random sites across New Zealand have received unconfirmed threats.

Bowen Hospital received correspondence of an unconfirmed threat at around 9:30am, according to Evolution Healthcare.

"Evolution Healthcare has robust processes and protocols in place for managing such threats and Bowen Hospital's management took this threat as serious and enacted the hospital's protocols to ensure the safety of our staff, patients and others on our site," according to a statement from Evolution Healthcare.

"Police were immediately informed as a part of the communications within our safety protocols and attended the site, performing a thorough sweep of the hospital. The Police confirmed Bowen to be safe."

Evolution Healthcare said the management team safely recommenced hospital procedures, avoiding any disruptions to patients and staff.

"Evolution Healthcare provides EAP support services for our staff and others impacted by the event."
