Police, LandSar search underway after upturned kayak discovered on Kāpiti Coast

Police and Land Search and Rescue teams have found the occupant of an upturned kayak discovered on Kāpiti Coast on Thursday. 

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, police said they were working to establish whether anyone was on board the kayak at the time it flipped over. 

The kayak was discovered off the coast of Raumati Beach on the Kāpiti Coast, around 60km north-west of Wellington.

LandSAR volunteers spent Thursday helping police search the Kāpiti Coast shoreline.

Police revealed the owner of the kayak had been found "safe and well" just after 7pm on Thursday.

"Police wish to thank everybody who provided assitance," the statement read.
