Birkenhead liquor store worker seriously injured after thieves target Auckland store, assault two employees

Three people have been arrested after allegedly assaulting two liquor store workers and seriously injuring one of them.  

The three alleged thieves stormed The Bottle-O Birkenhead on Mokoia Rd in the North Shore suburb of Chatswood at around 9:40pm.

They then allegedly assaulted two staff members before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.  

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Nimmo told Newshub one of the workers was taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries. The second worker was treated at the scene with minor injuries.  

The three men will appear in the Waitakere District Court on Tuesday facing charges in relation to the incident. 

Snr Srg Nimmo told Newshub police acknowledge this was a "frightening incident" for the store and support has been offered to those affected.

Footage captured by a Newshub cameraperson shows glass shattered on the footpath outside the store from a window at the entrance of the store.

Police officers can be seen examining the store.
