Kiwi woman stabbed to death in Australia trying to flee from boyfriend

A Kiwi woman has died in Australia on Saturday after allegedly being stabbed to death by her partner while trying to flee.

Emergency services were called to the pair's home on a street in Kallangur, north of Brisbane, where mother of four Siva Auvae was found "collapsed" on the road suffering from multiple stab wounds. She died at the scene soon afterwards.

Neighbours have told local media they saw Auvae running and screaming from the house and being chased by the 32-year-old man, before collapsing about 400m away.

Queensland Police are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding Auvae's death, but Detective Inspector David Harbison told reporters police believe Auvae's partner, a 32-year-old man, "deliberately" lit the house fire after the incident.

The man tried to flee but was arrested nearby and taken to hospital with serious burn injuries but later died in hospital.

Auvae's family has paid tribute describing her as the "most beautiful cousin" and "the most loving, kind person", saying "It hurts my heart to hear you're gone".

Auvae's family have set up a Givealittle page to return her body to New Zealand and get her four children back home.

"She was living in Australia with her 4 beautiful children and partner and her youngest baby is not even a year old," the Givealittle page read.

"Her whanau here in New Zealand are doing everything they can to find out more details surrounding her death and the events leading up."

A witness told 9News the incident was sickening.

"It's sickening, it's so hard when it's so close to home," witness Toni Labudda said.

A nearby neighbour said she had been having a family barbecue when she noticed smoke billowing from the home.

"I quickly ran to the top of the driveway and my friend was walking to our house yelling, stop, stop, stop," neighbour Kiana Jeffrey told the Courier Mail. "Then I looked and there was blood everywhere and a lady was face down in the middle of the road."

Residents rushed from their homes to assist the badly injured woman.

"I just remember seeing her blood everywhere, on the driveway there was a big puddle and all the police just came flying," Jeffrey said.

Police said no one else is being sought over the deaths.
