Police have launched a homicide investigation in Whakatāne following the death of a man who was brought to hospital with serious injuries.
At around 9:40pm on Sunday a man in his twenties was brought to hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced dead soon after he arrived.
Police are now making inquiries into the man's death and trying to determine how he became injured. They're urging anyone with information to come forward.
"Initial inquiries suggest the man may have suffered his injuries in Tāneatua, and police are continuing their investigations there today," a police spokesperson said.
