Police have named the man who was found dead in a Hamilton driveway in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was Te Reo Wickliffe-Heta, 24, from Hamilton.

"Police extend their sympathies to his whānau and loved ones at this difficult time," Detective Senior Sergeant Terri Wilson said in a statement on Sunday morning.

In an update on Sunday morning, Wilson confirmed a 24-year-old woman has been charged with assault and will appear in Hamilton District Court.

Wilson said further charges against the 24-year-old are likely.

It comes after police launched a homicide investigation when Wickliffe-Heta was found dead at a house on Sundown Crescent in the Hamilton suburb of Melville at around 12:20am on Saturday.

Police said on Saturday that Wickliffe-Heta may have been involved in another incident on the same street and a man linked to that address is assisting them with their enquiries.

"Police continue to appeal for any residents of Sundown Crescent who may have relevant CCTV footage to get in touch," Wilson said on Sunday.
