Six people have been injured after two separate crashes in the North Island involving caravans on Wednesday.

At around 9am, police were alerted to a crash involving a truck, a trailer, and a car in Tauranga.

The collision occurred near the intersection of State Highway 2 and Thompsons Track, a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"Traffic management was in place, however, the road reopened about 11am."

St John also attended the scene where they treated three patients, two with minor injuries and one with moderate injuries.

"We transported three patients to Tauranga hospital," a Hāto Hone St John spokesperson told Newshub.

A photo sent to Newshub shows half of a caravan completely crumpled as it lays on the side of the road.

Furniture and other items from inside the van were seen thrown on the ground around it.

A second crash involving a caravan happened at 12pm in Manawatū's Rongotea, closing the northbound lane of SH1.

The single-vehicle crash resulted in the campervan rolling onto its side, leaving two with minor injuries and one with moderate injuries.

The patient with moderate injuries was sent to Palmerston North Hospital and the road reopened at about 2pm.
