Two teens have been taken into custody after a spree of dangerous driving across West Auckland that included ramming vehicles, crashing head-on, and evading police.
Waitematā East road policing manager Mike Rickards said the driver was 19-year-old male accompanied by an 18-year-old male passenger.
They were first spotted on Wednesday night driving dangerously in Sunnyvale around 8:30pm.
A nearby police unit signalled for the driver to stop on Great north Rd but instead he drove away at speed out of sight.
"At no stage did police initiate a pursuit due to the manner of driving," Rickards said.
Soon after, the vehicle was sighted in New Lynn ramming other vehicles in efforts to pass.
At around 9:02pm, the vehicle turned onto the wrong side of Mairo Street from New Windsor Road and crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle, just up from the Mt Roskill police station.
"The two occupants have exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but they were quickly taken into custody," Rickards said.
There were no injuries reported from any of the crashes though the passenger of the offending car was transported to Waitākere Hospital for checks before being released back into custody.
Police are considering charges for the 19-year-old driver, and the 18-year-old passenger.
