Woman survives 30m fall onto rocks while exploring Waiheke Island

A woman has survived falling 30 metres onto rocks while exploring the Waiheke Island coastline yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who was in her 20s, was on a walking track near Te Whetumatarau Point in Matiatia Bay when she fell.

Police received reports of the incident at about 1.30pm.

The woman was picked up by the police boat Deodar from Matiatia Bay and taken to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter at 1.45pm.

She was then flown to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.
