A section of motorway has reopened in north Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland on Friday afternoon, after a crash blocked two lanes earlier in the day.

Both northbound lanes next to the Ōteha Valley Rd off-ramp are now open to traffic again, a police spokesperson said.

"Police would like to thank motorists for their patience while the blockage was cleared."

Earlier at about 1.45pm, a vehicle had been towing a boat on a trailer when the driver crashed and caused an impassable "blockage".

A photo of the carnage showed the boat leaning on an angle, facing side-on to the traffic piling up behind it.

Waka Kotahi NZTA had earlier said all northbound lanes were temporarily blocked.
