Police seeking witnesses to Manurewa, Auckland shooting that left two people critically injured

Police have confirmed they're investigating a shooting after two people were found unresponsive in a vehicle in south Auckland in the early hours of Monday morning.

It comes after armed police closed off Addington Ave in Manurewa when the pair were found in the vehicle at around 3:20am before being transported to hospital.

In an update on Monday afternoon, Detective Inspector Karen Bright of Counties Manukau confirmed police are investigating a shooting.

Det Insp Bright said the shooting left the pair with gunshot wounds and they were taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police have completed a scene examination and are making enquiries to determine the circumstances of the shooting but are asking the public for help.

Det Insp Bright said police believe this was an isolated incident and there is not thought to be an ongoing risk to the community.

"Police encourage anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has information that could assist with our enquiries, to contact Police on 105, either by calling or online at https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105 clicking ‘Update Report’," Det Insp Bright said.

"Please reference file number 240101/2378. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."

Det Insp Bright confirmed police remain at the scene and have closed off part of Addington Avenue while enquiries are ongoing.

It wasn't the only shooting in Auckland on New Year's morning. In a separate incident, Police said they were called to Dominion Road on Monday shortly after midnight after they had reports a man had been shot. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
