Police have named the teenager who died after a crash on Muriwai Beach on Sunday.
The incident occurred when a vehicle rolled on the West Auckland beach, with witnesses telling The Herald a ute had been doing burnouts on the beach with a girl in the back, before the accident.
"We came across [the accident scene], and a fireman told us a girl had been killed. We saw her body lying outside the ute just by the rear tyre there," one told the NZ Herald.
Now police have confirmed the deceased was 19-year-old Madison Marie Chamberlain.
"Our thoughts are with Madison's family and friends at this very difficult time," police said in a statement.
The police investigation into how the accident unfolded is ongoing.
