Tyre-iron-wielding thieves smash into Manukau, Auckland petrol station, steal items

An investigation is underway into an early morning smash-and-grab and robbery, with the offenders remaining on the run.

At about 5:10am, police were called to the Caltex petrol station on Puhinui Rd in Manukau after the robbery.

Police say four people used a tyre iron to break the front door and take items from inside the shop.

Photos from the scene show shattered glass scattered outside the smashed front door of the store.

The four offenders fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned a short time later in Papatoetoe, police said.

Police confirmed officers are following "strong lines of enquiry" but so far the four alleged thieves have not been arrested.
