A 45-year-old man is to appear in Auckland's District Court on Friday after a person was critically injured following a stabbing at McDonald's in Mt Roskill on Thursday night.
It was "an isolated incident between two parties in a family relationship", a police spokesperson said.
Police officers were called to Stoddard Rd in Wesley after a report of an alleged stabbing shortly before 8pm on Thursday.
A Newshub camera operator at the scene said there were people inside the restaurant at the time of the assault.
Police on Friday said the injured person was still "critical" and in hospital.
Det Snr Sgt Ash Matthews, of Auckland, said there was no further threat to public safety.
"A 45-year-old man will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident in Wesley last night.
"At around 8pm Police were called to a premises in Stoddard Rd after receiving a report of an alleged stabbing. One person was taken to hospital with critical injuries, where they remain.
"Police want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat to public safety, this appears to be an isolated incident between two parties in a family relationship."
However, he confirmed there would be extra police in the area on Friday "while a scene examination is completed".
