Police have confirmed a woman has died in the cells at the Wellington Central Police Station in the early hours of Monday morning.
A police spokesperson said the woman was found unresponsive in the cells at around 2:40am.
"Despite medical attention, she was unable to be revived," the spokesperson said.
The woman had been taken into custody late on Saturday on outstanding warrants for arrest.
An investigation will be undertaken and those findings will help inform the Coroner, the spokesperson said.
