Emergency services have swarmed to a building on fire in Kerikeri on Wednesday morning, with black smoke billowing into the sky.
Footage of the fire on social media shows flames and a large amount of smoke pouring out of the building.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) told Newshub it received multiple calls about the blaze just before 10:40am.
A police spokesperson said the blaze was on State Highway 10.
When fire crews arrived at the single-storey commercial building, it was "well-involved", FENZ said.
Crews from five fire stations around Kerikeri are working to extinguish the blaze and, at this stage, it's unclear what is in the building.
FENZ also said no information was available as to whether the blaze was a public health risk.
