A person has died after a large house fire in Ōpōtiki overnight.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said three trucks raced to the blaze between Church and John Sts at about 2:20am on Thursday.
The property was well-involved in fire, with crews getting to work dousing the flames while protecting neighbouring homes.
A police spokesperson said a person was found dead at the scene. FENZ said another person was accounted for.
Police said investigations into the cause of the blaze are underway.
