A person is dead and another is seriously injured after a crash south of Dunedin overnight.
Police were called to the single-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 (Milton Highway) at 12:45am on Friday.
One person died and another was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
State Highway 1 between Lakeside Road and Moneymore Road is closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway.
