One person killed in house-bus fire in South Island's Hokitika

One person has been killed in a house-bus fire on the South Island's west coast this morning.

The fire took place inland from Hokitika during the early hours of Tuesday.

"Emergency services were called to the Blue Spur property about 4am," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"One person made it out of the house-bus unharmed, however sadly a second person was located deceased," they said.

Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) told Newshub they arrived at the scene at around 4:15am.

"The first arriving crew found the bus well ablaze. One person was deceased," a spokesperson said.

Police and FENZ are working together to determine the cause of the fire.
