A small business has taken to social media to hunt down cunning thieves who stole a small housing pod, trailer, and truck from their business in the early hours of Monday morning.

Rebecca McLean, the founder and director of Tiny House Builders Ltd, initially took to Facebook to share the "disappointing news" of the theft.

"At 2am last night we had a break in," she said.

McLean told Newshub the thieves pre-emptively rotated the property's security camera away from its intended filming zone around 12:30am on Monday morning.

They then waited a couple of hours to check the camera wasn't monitored before storming into the business to complete their raid.

McLean said the thieves "smashed through our security gates".

They made off with a two-bedroom 'tiny pod', its trailer, and a truck from the site.

The tiny pod is two bedrooms and wardrobe space and does not include a kitchen or bathroom.

McLean said on Facebook she is "just doing a bit of a shout-out to say, if you could share this and keep an eye out, it's pretty recognisable, so we hope to recover it".

The client who the pod was made for was due to collect it in the next two weeks.

McLean revealed that a helpful citizen had recently contacted her, telling her he saw the pod and trailer heading towards Rotorua around 4:30am this morning.

Asked about the burglary, a police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub that they had received a report that "a two-bedroom cabin and a truck have been stolen from an address on Rea Road sometime between 12:30am and 7:30am today".

The spokesperson said, "the report is currently being assessed for further lines of enquiry".

McLean asks anyone with information about the theft to contact the Tiny Homes Builders' Facebook page or email admin@ tinyhousebuilders.co.nz.
